Odds, Picks, and Analysis of the PGA tour event running from August 1- August 4.
Brooks Koepka will enjoy a well deserved break from golf this weekend. The 2019 St. Jude Classic champion and current leader in the FedEx Cup will not be playing this weekend in North Carolina. The current top 10 is as follows:
From this list, only Paul Casey will be competing in the Wyndham Championship this week. Despite being the best golfer in the field, Webb Simpson comes into play on thursday the favorite. The Top 10 odds to win this week are as follows (bovada):
Webb Simpson +900
Collin Morikawa +1400
Hideki Matsuyama +1400
Jordan Speith +1400
Brandt Snedeker +2200
Patrick Reed +2200
Paul Casey +2200
Viktor Hovland +2500
Billy Horschel +2800
Alex Noren +3300
The Smart Bet
Webb Simpson is a good play for this weekend at the favorite spot (9/1). The 2012 U.S. Open winner comes in as a decently heavy favorite, and I don't think he will disappoint. Simpson finished second to Brooks Koepka in last weeks St. Jude Championship, but with a late surge to get there. Webb shot 6 under par in the final round on Sunday, and comes into this weekend the hottest golfer in the field.
Paul Casey is a great value pick, as he has been the most consistent player in this field all season. He's the only player ranked in the top 10 in the FedEx standings, and will prove why this weekend. I will guarantee a top 10 finish from Casey at the Wyndham come Sunday.
The Risky Bet
I like Dylan Fritelli at 45/1. These odds are crazy high for a guy who's been playing great golf and is hungry for another win. The South African finished in 32 in the British Open, and is 50th in the FedEx cup, but he won the John Deere Classic less than a month ago. This is a risky pick, but a high reward one that I find to be possible this weekend.
